You know you should tell someone. Everyone says it, you know it in your head, but when you're actually standing at the edge, about to do it, it's terrifying anyway. That's the gap this video is about, the space between logically understanding you need to confess and actually finding the courage to do it. I use two illustrations to get at this, jumping off a cliff, and noodling for catfish. In both, you can know something is safe, know everyone else made it through fine, and still feel your whole body scream "DON'T DO IT!" Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. You believe it's true. You just don't believe it's true for you. You grit your teeth. You white-knuckle through the urge. You make it a day, a week, maybe longer, and then it happens again, and you're right back where you started, exhausted and ashamed. That exhausting cycle has a name: white knuckling. It's fighting sexual sin on raw willpower alone, gripping tight and hoping you can hold on long enough. And it never lasts, because it was never meant to. In this video, I break down why willpower alone can't break sexual sin, using the picture of physically bracing a door shut during Hurricane Ian so it wouldn't blow open and take the roof with it, the exact same feeling as trying to white-knuckle your way through this fight alone. There's a better way, and it's not gritting harder. It's surrender, handing the battle to God instead of carrying it by yourself. Would you hand the keys to your house to a tenant you knew would wreck it? Most of us would never do that with a rental property, but we do it in our spiritual lives every day. In this video I use the picture of a landlord and a bad tenant to show how we give the enemy a lease on our lives. Every lie we believe, every habit we keep feeding, and every sin we hide signs another month on the lease. Before long he's acting like he owns the place. The good news is that you don't have to keep renting to him. Jesus paid for the whole house. You can stop renewing the lease, take back the ground you gave away, and guard your heart, mind, and soul with the truth.
